In 2004, there was only one related paper, reaching a peak of 94 papers by 2014. Although the number of publications has declined in recent years, the depth of research has significantly improved. The championship of the Xi'an Sport University representative team in the National Fitness Yoga Open has become a landmark achievement in the integration of sports and education in universities.

The current research focuses on the feasibility, physical and mental health effects, and interdisciplinary integration of yoga courses, such as "integration of physical and medical education" and "ideological and political education in courses". However, issues such as insufficient professionalization of teaching staff and loose institutional cooperation still need to be resolved. Data shows that only a few universities have a systematic yoga teaching system, with teachers relying heavily on Western concepts and insufficient localization innovation.

Policy support injects momentum into the development of yoga. The "National Fitness Plan (2021-2025)" explicitly includes yoga in the national fitness strategy and promotes its deep integration with fields such as healthcare and education. In the future, research on yoga in universities needs to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration, combine VR technology, big data analysis and other tools, explore personalized teaching plans, and cultivate composite talents for the industry.
